About the Competition

Host Cities   The women's football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics will be held from 25 July to 10 August 2024.

It will be the eighth edition of the women's Olympic football tournament. Together with the men's competition, the 2024 Summer Olympics football tournament will be held at seven stadiums in seven cities in France.

The top two in each of the three groups will proceed to the Quarter Finals along with the two best third-placed finishers.

The group stage runs until 31 July, with the knockout stage beginning on 3 August.

The Gold Medal Match will be held at Parc des Princes in Paris.

Mascot   The mascots of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games mark a difference with the mascots of previous editions of the Games, as they do not represent animals, but Phrygian caps! The two Phryges, one Olympic and the other Paralympic, symbolise freedom and revolution.

The two mascots share a motto of "Alone we go faster, but together we go further", and the Olympic Phryge is described as "a tactician with a calculating brain", while the Paralympic Phryge is "spontaneous and full of energy and enthusiasm".

The official IOC website helpfully explains that their name is to be pronounced "fri-jee-uhs"
